Harappan Woman

Acrylic on Indian slate.

The artwork is based on one of the many terra-cotta figurines found in Mohen-jo-daro and Harappa - two ancient cities of Indus Valley Civilization, which existed during 2500 BC. Located in the Western part of India (now lies in Pakistan), the expertly constructed cities were a part of an advanced civilization that are recognized as the roots of Indian culture. The crack in the slate was intentional to match that in the real statuette.

Framed size 20"x21"
