Manick Sorcar bags '2015 ILDA Artistic Award' in Dubai

Denver based ‘laserist’ and animator Manick Sorcar received the coveted 2015 ILDA Artistic Award at the annual conference of the International Laser Display Association

Denver based ‘laserist’ and animator Manick Sorcar received the coveted 2015 ILDA Artistic Award at the annual conference of the International Laser Display Association here (Dubai, UAE). 

Sorcar’s entry competed among 127 entries  from around the world. The judges selected his “Light Art in Shower Ocean" for the first prize

A lifelong proponent of Indian culture and heritage throughout his work, Manick Sorcar had earlier received the first ILDA Artistic Award in 2006 at Rimini, Italy for his stage show Enlightenment of Buddha where he combined laser animation with live action.

His 2012 production “Swamiji”, the much acclaimed hour-long laser documentary on Swami Vivekananda, received rave reviews around the world and was displayed across India by Ramakrishna Mission in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, where it was also nationally telecast.

In 2011 he introduced a course in  Laser for Art and Animation towards a degree in Illumination Engineering at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Jadavpur University has built “Manick Sorcar Laser Animation Laboratory”, where he has donated all the laser equipment.

Manick Sorcar is the eldest son of   P.C. Sorcar, the legendary Indian magician."
